Die obskure Kammer

FLUSS Workshops @ Schloss Wolkersdorf - Austria - Summer 2010

Photography that is based on the historic principle of the camera obscura cannot be created by using standard means of perception, such as looking through a lens or a viewfinder. To be able to achieve satisfying results and to produce high quality pinhole photographs, one needs intuition, experience and the ability to let go and be fully immersed in the task.

In spite - or perhaps precisely because - of this, pinhole photography has recently gained status as a very modern form of photography. An increasing number of photographers worldwide are embracing this old technique, and also using the internet to connect with one another to exchange and discuss their results and experiences.

The aim of this year’s Photography Weeks is to pay tribute to this development, and, by inviting two accomplished artists to lead pinhole photography workshops, to explore in depth this “new” wave of interest in the “old”.
